A private 1933 mountain chalet where the Sunnegga piste meets the forest.
Soak beneath the Matterhorn in the private eight-person wooden hot tub.
Ski-in/ski-out beside the Sunnegga piste—and every guest in the past year rated the location five stars.
Matterhorn views from the house, garden and hot tub.
A private, five-star ski-in/ski-out mountain chalet above Zermatt, with an open fire, an outdoor cedar hot tub and uninterrupted views towards the Matterhorn.
Built in 1933 in traditional Valais timber style, Chalet Bergheim has been lovingly renovated with natural materials and bespoke handmade furniture. It retains the warmth and character of an authentic alpine home while adding fast Wi-Fi, a whirlpool bath, smart entertainment and the comforts expected of a modern mountain chalet.
The chalet is completely private, with virtually no neighbours in sight and no shared spaces. The whole house, garden and terrace are yours. Outside, the large south-facing grounds include an eight-person cedar hot tub, firepit, barbecue and space to enjoy the sun. The chalet is offered on a self-catering basis, with catering potentially available by arrangement.
One of Zermatt’s few freestanding chalets, the 120 m² home sleeps up to eight guests, with a maximum of six adults, across three bedrooms and two bathrooms. One bedroom has a double bed, one can be arranged as either a double or two singles, and the largest can be arranged as a double plus two singles or as four singles. Depending on the chosen configuration, the chalet provides up to seven individual beds. One bathroom is paired with a separate whirlpool room looking towards the Matterhorn.
Set at the treeline at 1,750 metres, the chalet overlooks Zermatt’s rooftops and sits directly beside the Sunnegga piste. With sufficient snow you can ski to and from the property and connect into approximately 360 kilometres of pistes. After a day on the mountain, return to a glass of wine by the open fire or the evening sun on the terrace.
In summer, hiking and mountain-bike trails begin at the door. Ride to a mountain lake for a swim, explore the forest on foot, or finish the day with a barbecue and drinks around the outdoor firepit.
The kitchen centres on a French LaCanche range, with a high-quality automatic coffee machine and dishwasher. A fully equipped laundry and ski room includes a boot dryer, while a desk supports remote working. Heating and electricity come from local hydropower, and emissions associated with supplies and luggage transfers are offset so the chalet operates on a carbon-neutral basis.
If you love the mountains, value privacy and want outdoor adventures immediately beyond the front door, Chalet Bergheim offers a rare way to experience Zermatt in every season.
The chalet provides approximately 120 m² of living space across two floors.
The entire chalet, garden and terrace are private for your stay. In summer a taxi can reach the chalet. In winter, vehicles stop around 400 metres away and the final approach follows a prepared mountain path.

High above the village, remote enough for real privacy yet connected to Zermatt’s restaurants, lifts and amenities.
The map shows the general area. The precise address and arrival instructions are provided after booking.
In winter, taxis can normally reach only to within about 400 metres of the chalet. The final approach is on foot along a prepared mountain trail; in summer, a taxi can reach the property directly. The walk from central Zermatt takes approximately 20–25 minutes uphill, although an elevator operating during lift hours reduces the climb and walking time.
Accessibility: the steep uphill approach, uneven mountain path, steps and potentially slippery winter conditions mean the chalet is not suitable for guests with limited mobility.
Low-snow conditions: direct ski-in/ski-out access depends on natural snow cover and may not be available. The nearest snow-sure piste is approximately 400 metres away.
The natural path from the piste can be slippery in snow and ice. Steps are cleared and woodchips laid before arrival, but fresh snowfall may require guests to clear snow during their stay; woodchips and salt are provided.
Complimentary winter luggage transfer is normally available Monday–Saturday from 10:00 until 15:30, except in very poor weather. Please plan to arrive in Zermatt no later than 15:15 on arrival day. Zermatt is car-free.
